In the heart of the captivating rolling hills, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His existence was essentially untarnished, and unsophisticated. His main role was essentially to look after his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes through the solo tree on the peak were his main co-dwellers. Day in day, guarding his wards instilled in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

Yet, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy here conceived a mischievous scheme.

Tales of wolves prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but saw nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank persisted for a few more days. Yet, one morning, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
